is it possible to use the strips of hair from a sibling or parent or it has to be the patients hair? Can the genders be different like a sister donate to brother?
Answer: Hair transplants with other person's hair Dear merzad123, Thank you for your clinical post and a frequently asked question. Hair transplantations involve transplantation of the hair bulb and shaft. There are certain markers on the surface of each human cell that make them unique. Transplant cells from another human would be recognized as foreign such as a kidney transplant or lung transplant and the body would reject these hair transplants immediately. The only way this could be performed without rejection would be the use of immunosuppressant medications, which have a lot of harmful side effects. You may, of course, have an identical twin who could transplant identically matched hair to you, but if they were identical they would also be suffering from pattern hair loss. A sibling such as a brother that is not identical, sister or parent would not have HLA identical surface cell markings and would be recognized as foreign and be rejected. So, ultimately the only way to undergo hair restoration transplantation in this day and age is with transplantation from your own occipital or scalp donor or from your body. Body hair such as the chest, back, groin or leg can be used with the FUE automated NeoGraft and Artas technique or manual FUE. One day cloning may become possible, but is not practical at this point in time and the absence of a linear scar makes automated FUE or robotic FUE a desirable option. I hope this information has been of some assistance and best of luck. For more information, please review the link below. R. Stephen Mulholland, M.D. Certified Plastic Surgeon Yorkville, Toronto

Answer: Hair transplant from another person You can not use some one else's hair for hair transplant. It has to be from your own hair or your body will reject it . Family members hairs can not be used.
