For linear surgical atrophic scars. Sure, just once would not be enough. But does doing it multiple times keep helping each time? Or does the scar hit a certain point where it can't be improved anymore with laser?
Answer: Fraxel Yes.Fraxel laser skin resurfacing tricks your skin into creating new skin to replace the damaged, or targeted areas, resulting in natural skin rejuvenation. It is a safe, non-invasive laser skin treatment without the risks of major side effects or prolonged downtime of other procedures. The Fraxel Laser treats mild to moderate acne scarring, sun spots/damage and fine wrinkles. Many people notice results within a week after their first treatment. Their skin feels smoother, looks less blotchy, and has a glow. Some people notice a difference after one treatment, but the recommended Fraxel treatments are usually done in a set of 3, about 4 weeks apart.

Answer: Fraxel laser sessions Dear eyelid123, Post surgical scars that are spread, silvery and “atrophic” in nature can do very well with fractional CO2, fractional radio frequency and “Fraxel type lasers.” These fraction or proportional laser injury devices create small, fractional injuries in to the scar tissue and force the body to produce more normal collagen elastin and ground substances. This fractional laser treatment improves the texture and appearance of most atrophic surgical scars. The same technique is used for acne scars, natural lines and wrinkles and skin texture in general. Multiple fractional ablative treatments either Fraxel Infrared type lasers, fractionated carbon dioxide lasers or fractional radio frequency devices. I found a combination of these treatments at the same time will diminish the number of treatments that are required. You are absolutely right that eventually there is the “law” diminish and returns and subsequent fractioned ablative treatments provide very little scar improvement. Other techniques such as the inner jet, which is jet propulsion injury, as well as sub-dermal heating techniques can also add to the overall appearance and improvement in surgical and non-surgical scars. I have been performing laser aesthetic skin treatments for over 20 years and have accumulated a large number of lasers that allow us to create the best possible surgical scar improvements with use of combined technologies. I hope this information has been of some assistance. R. Stephen Mulholland, M.D. Certified Plastic Surgeon Yorkville, Toronto
