Thank you for your question and for sharing your photographs Kvad. I understand your concern. Botox is a purified protein used to address wrinkles associated with facial expression.Common areas of treatment include the vertical lines seen between the brows when one frowns and the horizontal lines seen on the upper forehead when one raises the brows. When injected into the skin Botox will relax the muscles and smoothen out the overlying wrinkles. Contrary to what many people believe the effects of Botox are not immediate. The pivotal studies demonstrated that the peak effects are seen 14 days after a treatment. Many people start seeing the effects much sooner, sometimes within a day or two. I have my patients return 2 weeks after a treatment to assess the results. At that point additional units may be added if necessary. Patience is important; especially after one's first treatment. The pivotal studies used 20 units of Botox in the glabella area, the region between the brows, and found that most people enjoyed their results for 3-4 months. There have been no published studies for Botox treatment in the upper forehead but it is my understanding that studies are ongoing using 20 units. In my experience I have found that such high dosing is often too much for most people. For those with a broad forehead or men it can suffice. But for those with small foreheads I generally use approximately half this dose. With any injection there is a risk for pain, bleeding, bruising, redness, swelling, tenderness, and infection. We take special precautions to minimize these risks. We treat bruises with a laser as early as the next day; this makes the bruise resolve faster. Droopy eyelids is a rare complication that is temporary and can be treated with eye drops. Overall there is a high level of safety with Botox and patients have been enjoying their results for years. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!
