I am scheduled for a mommy make over (TT and BL) on 2/16. I was thinking I might do the Kybella shots in conjunction with the surgery but was uncertain whether to do them before or after. If I do them before it would be about 10 days before. If after, it would be 10 days to two weeks after. Is there any reason why I shouldn't? Thanks for considering this question.
Answer: Kybella before a tummy tuck I can't think of any reason why you would not be able to have Kybella injected 10 days before your tummy tuck. Most all of your swelling should be down by that point. Assuming that you are otherwise a good candidate for kybella, you should be able to have the injections before or after your surgery. Best of luck!

Answer: Kybella before a Mommy makeover There are no contraindications for Kybella prior to a mommy makeover. Either 2 weeks before of after is a good idea. I may suggest talking with your surgeon about one more possible option. Kybella is a great non-surgical alternative that removes the excess fat in the neck area. It requires more than one treatment and may need 2-4 treatments. Since you are already undergoing surgery, liposuction of the neck may also be a good option. It removes the same neck fat and it is a one and done procedure. The main reason people decide on Kybella is that it is non surgical. Since you are already undergoing surgery that seems less of an issue to you. Pricing should also be fairly equilvalent. I hope that helps.

Answer: Kybella before tummy tuck I think that the better solution for your scenario would be to forget the Kybella altogether. The main reason people get Kybella injections is because they want to avoid surgery and the potential anesthesia involved. You are into position that you are paying for the anesthesia already, and will be asleep, thereby negating this benefit. Kybella requires multiple treatments, with a few weeks of potential swelling and soreness between each treatment. You may require three or four treatments which will add up to be potentially costly. My advice to you would be to discuss with your surgeon the potential to add a small amount of liposuction to your submental area while you are sleep. This would only add another 15 minutes yo your procedure, so the increas in cost for the anesthesia and hospital fees would be minimal. I think in the long run it will be much quicker, more effective, and potentially less expensive than several rounds of Kybella treatments. If this sounds reasonable to you, I would contact your surgeon right away so you are not adding or changing your procedure just before the surgery.Best of luck!Dr. SubbioBoard-Certified Plastic SurgeonNewtown Square/Philadelphia, PA

Answer: Kybella Treatment Before Surgery Thank you for posting your interesting Kybella question. It is safe to have your first Kybella, deoxycolic acid, treatment 2 weeks before or after your surgery. As you know, Kybella is a series of injections under the skin to reduce the submental fat or double chin. Since it takes a while for the Kybella to take effect, you might want to get started on your make over before surgery. I recommend that you discuss this with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who is experienced and properly trained with Kybella. Best wishes, Dr. Swift
