Rhinoplasty with Uveitis?

Question

Good Evening. My name is Nicole an I suffer with Uveitis. However, I am in a controlled flare at the moment. Taking eyedrops long term. Can I still have Rhinoplasty? Will the trauma cause permanent damage to my eyes? What steps do I need to factor in? Has any surgeon had by patients on eye drops with Uveitis? My eye doctor doesn't seem to think this will be a problem. But I would like advice from anyone in my situation or an experienced nose surgeon. Many thanks in advance.

Hello and thank you for your question. That should not be a problem as long as you obtain clearance from your treating ophthalmologist. Based on your photograph, you may benefit from a tip refining rhinoplasty. Your surgeon can accomplish this by trimming, suturing, and reshaping the cartilage in your lower nose. Fascial grafts may also be used to help improve tip refinement. With good surgical technique, you could have an outstanding result. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified rhinoplasty surgeon who can evaluate you in person.

As long as you get clearance from your ophthalmologist before undergoing rhinoplasty surgery, there’s no issue for us performing the surgery

Undergoing a rhinoplasty with uveitis should not be a problem, but it's always best to get a letter of clearance from your ophthalmologist prior to elective cosmetic surgery.  It would also be best not to have an inflammatory process going on while you're undergoing a rhinoplasty procedure next to the eyelids
