Rhinoplasty - day case or overnight stay?

Thank you fore your question. I do most of my rhinoplasties as a day case as ling as patients have someone at home with them. The exception to the rule is if I have to operate on the septum when we pack the nose and inspect it internally before I discharge patients home. You must be aware that surgeons and Hospitals will have varying protocols but do ask your PS is you can have the surgery as a daycare.

The indications to stay one night in hospital are many: they can be simplified as below:
1) history of sleep apnea
2) delays in early recovery: walking, eating, passing urine
3) severe symptoms after surgery (continuous nausea, vomiting etc)
4) late time out of theatre
If you are included in any of those groups, then I would recommend a night in the hospital.

In most cases a rhinoplasty can be performed as a day case. Some cases are surgically more complex or if you have other medical conditions, overnight may be needed. Additionally you would always need someone sensible and reliable to look after you. Some patients prefer to know they have a trained nurse to look after them.
