Cellfina before or after a BBL?

Belle, thank you for this excellent question. I do not believe that there is good scientific evidence to support which approach is best here. My practice is to perform Cellfina prior to BBL. In patients with cellulite of the buttocks, after BBL dimples often remain and may even become more exaggerated. The cellulite restricts skin expansion and limits the volume of fat that can be grafted. Surface contour irregularities remain or become exaggerated. Cellfina will release the buttocks dimples and relieve the skin tethering to deeper tissue. With a subsequent BBL the skin will then be free to expand smoothly and evenly and a larger volume of fat may be able to be grafted. I do not believe that the two procedures should be performed together. The Cellfina releases create cavities that will be filled with fat with a simultaneous BBL. These larger deposits of fat will be prone to more resorption from lack of revascularization and to nodule or cyst formation. Ideally BBL will be performed at least 3 to 6 months after Cellfina to allow for maturation and softening of internal scar tissue. Your ABPS certified plastic surgeon should be able to help you plan the best approach for your particular circumstances. Best of luck!Dr. Max Polo

This is a great question at multiple levels. First of all, it addresses the fact that the Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) will not treat the cellulite in the butt and thighs.  The BBL is a great treatment to enhance your buttock and overall shape, however it does not treat the superficial cellulite. 
There are several ways to address the cellulite for your butt and thighs.  The options are surgeon specific and should be discussed with your Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon performing your Brazilian Butt Lift. 

The first option is to have the Cellfina done at the time of your Brazilian Butt Lift if your surgeon has that option available for you.  This is easier logistically as your two procedures are combined in one.

When choosing between doing the procedure before or after the BBL I would recommend doing the Cellfina prior to the Brazilian Butt Lift as it will release the bands and in my patients, it seems to allow for more fat transfer.  However, if you do it prior, it needs to be several weeks prior to your Brazilian Butt Lift. 

With all of this said you are still a candidate for Cellfina after your Brazilian Butt Lift.  I typically have patients wait at least six weeks after their BBL to undergo a Cellfina treatment. 

The versatility of being able to do the Cellfina in the office under local or in the operating room as part of your Brazilian Butt Lift gives patients a lot of options.

I hope this helps.  Please consult with your Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon about your Cellfina treatment as every surgeon has a specific time-line for having a Cellfina treatment before and after a Brazilian Butt Lift.  

A combination approach would give the most improvement. Cellfina itself is the best treatment we have for cellulite but works best in combination with Sculptra you may need cellfina for cellulite, sculptra for collagen production, renuva fat injections or autologous fat injections and body treatments like Venus Legacy/Exilis Ultra, Cellutone/Zwave. Dimples can be improved with a combination of surgery, fillers, and/or lasers and microneedling/prp. A VASER HI DEF procedure can be done for more contouring and smoothing, if you're a candidate. Cellulite can't be cured, but can be improved with treatments and maintenance. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Hello and thank you for your question. I suggest speaking with your board certified plastic surgeon and discuss options for combining Cellfina with your BBL procedure. If a combination of the procedures is not advised, I would suggest a Cellfina treatment after the procedure. It's difficult to say without any photos to view and online. I suggest you first begin by consulting with a board certified plastic surgery to learn what your options are and what order is best pertaining to the procedure you plan to undergo. Your cosmetic #procedures and #cellulite reducing procedures should always be performed by a plastic surgeon who is board-certified and has a great deal of experience specializing in such #treatment. You will then greatly improve your chances of getting the result you desire, and, without the need for a revision surgery. It is also suggested that you look at before and after photos of the surgeons actual patients, and read patient reviews.

Hello and thank-you for your question.  I would recommend having the BBL as the first procedure.  You will notice a significant improvement in the cellulite with the improvement of skin laxity provided by the BBL.  You can have Cellfina  as a secondary procedure to improve any residual cellulite 3 months after the BBL.  I would recommend a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon in your area.Best regards,Andrew Lyos MD, FACS

I think you can do this a number of ways: BBL or Cellfina first or do them at the same time. Best bet is to discuss your goals with you plastic surgeon to map out an effective strategy for you.

I would consider first addressing the cellulite and then afterwards fat transfer would work wonders. You can also have cellfina/sculptra several months prior to BBL. 

Thank you for your question. Whether you have BBL or Delfina first does not matter in terms of one affecting the efficacy of the other. As you have correctly pointed out, BBL will not change cellulite. So long as you are using BBL for another reason, whether you do it before or after Cellfina won't matter. Cellfina is very effective against dimpling cellulite.
