Is it normal to get pimples after a liposuction? My back is full of pimples

There is no reason liposuction should cause true acne, but compression may irritate the acne and cause it to flare. If you were given steroids in your anesthesia that could also cause steroid acne.  Please speak to your physician.  Best, Dr. Emer.

The skin can respond to the trauma of surgery. This can trigger eruptions even acne. Furthermore there is a possibility of an allergic reaction to anyone of a number of medications. This should be ruled out. The compressive garment can create in area of moisture that can trigger a skin reaction of a different variety. Best to check this out with your surgeon.

Thank you for sharing your question.  Though not typical, patients can develop pimples after any surgery, usually as a reaction to either the solution used to sterilize your skin or the garments used to cover your incision.  Additionally if you are being kept in a compression garment, the sweat your body produces while wearing the garment may also predispose you.  Though these pimples should be self-limited, see your physician to ensure appropriate healing.  

 Acne breakouts are possible after surgery. This may be related to the garment which can cause a heat rash and sometimes a reaction to the latex in some of the garments. Additionally, the surgical prep, anesthesia and medications can be a shock to the system. You should follow up very quickly with your plastic surgeon to make sure this is quickly under control.
