First picture is my most current. Last three were from years ago when I was thin (I am now overweight). I have always had a small, receding chin and little jaw definition. My chin appears to blend into my neck from my side profile, and although weight loss improved it, even when I was thin it remained the case. I want a more prominent chin and defined jawline. Would a chin implant + submental liposuction be enough or should I go for the sliding genio? I worry about the cost and invasiveness
Answer: Chin surgery Both procedures can provide outstanding results and improve facial balance. There are several considerations. Chin implants are a good option when a straight forward advancement is needed and it is not over 5 mm (for women). In females, implants that have greater than 5 mm of horizontal projection can sometimes look wide and a bit masculine. Implants cannot provide length when the chin is short. If your need greater than 5 mm of horizontal projection and need additional length, then a genioplasty can provide both and looks the most natural. In addition, I generally recommend jawline liposuction when performing either of theses procedures. Both procedures are performed in our office with intravenous sedation and young patients are able to return to work in 3 -5 days. Neither procedure will effect your ability to chew or change your bite.

Answer: Chin augmentation Thank you for your question. Like most of my patients, the answer that is best is the one that's right for you. Luckily, there are several ways to accomplish your goal. The first, and least invasive, would be fillers. If you're on the fence or just don't have time for surgery and want an immediate result, this is a good option. The downside of course is that it lasts about a year depending on the filler used. Silicone implants are also an option. These are placed usually under anesthesia, but I have done some under local anesthesia depending on patient comfort. The downtime I advise is a week due to swelling. This is a great option for achieving a permanent result, but it is certainly more invasive than fillers. Sliding genioplasty I save for patients who don't like the idea of an implant, but also want a permanent result. This is the most invasive of the three options, but some patients prefer it. Long story short, my advice is to speak with your surgeon so you have an understanding of the pros and cons of each option, and to choose the one that's right for you. All the best, and I hope I've been of help.

Answer: Chin augmentation Dear acerv021, it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Based on your photos, it looks like you would benefit from chin augmentation. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: Chin augmentation I think you would benefit greatly with an extended mandibular augmentation and a submental liposuction. The procedure is quick , safe and predicable. Please consult with an experienced facial plastic surgeon to discuss your options.

Answer: Would a chin implant and necklift be best for me First of all, it's important to be at your ideal body weight with a BMI less than 30 before undergoing any facial cosmetic surgery. The photographs demonstrate fat deposits located in the neck above and below the platysma muscle along with a recessive chin profile. Consider a necklift procedure to remove the fat deposits located both above and below the platysma muscle in addition to a platysma plasty. Placement of a chin implant will augment the chin forward for better facial balance and proportions.
