Looking for procedures to flatten raised scar/tissue bump under penis after circumcision in early teens (Photo)

In general, I don't recommend silicone gels and patches as their usefulness leaves much to be desired. The use of intralesional injections of an anti-inflammatory agent, triamcinolone (well-known brand name Kenalog), on the other hand, has a many decades' long track record of efficacy for shrinking and flattening all kinds of bumpy scars, be they keloids or hypertrophic scars or even excessive fibrosis below the skin related to the use of permanent fillers. These injections tend to be relatively inexpensive, as compared to the expensive energy-based gizmos, such as RF or lasers, which are frequently hawked out there for all kinds of uses, despite the fact that the hard science to support their use lags woefully behind the heavy marketing and social media hype to promote them. You would be wise to consult a board certified cosmetic dermatologist and best of luck.

I recommend you see a board-certified dermatologist, who can discuss all of your treatment options with you. We’ve come a long way in terms of technology and treatment options. That said, you may benefit most from intralesional steroid injections +/- focal resurfacing laser treatments.

Circumcision can leave a scar which can lead to tethering of the penis as well as other issues. Sometimes lasers can help improve the texture of this area but treatment of choice is to typically use filler around the area to improve the tethering. The cannula we use for penile injections releases the tether points and can create a much smoother appearance in many cases. Best of luck

Treating these scars is relatively straightforward. I would suggest a combination of intralesional injections, lasers, and surgical scar revision. Soften the scar with Plato's scar serum twice daily to help reduce scar tissue.

There are two aspects to your scar, the elevated portion and the skin changes. The raised part can be lowered with Steroid or 5 FU injection. Ablative CO2 laser can be utilized. The skin color, texture and pore characteristics are different and difficult to improve. Total excision of the scar is a possibility, however one would need to perform post operative scar treatment to control the scar and prevent a recurrence. This is the most risky and invasive. Find a scar expert.

This could probably be treated with a minor in-office surgical procedure using only local anesthesia.

You need to find a provider who is experienced in treating penile scars. Ask your urologist or dermatologist for help.Then you need to find a provider who has a lot of different options available in their office. This should only be done by a well qualified professional as you don't want to risk more scarring or infection.

Hi Dex44,it is difficult to tell much about the scar based on the picture. Having said that ablative lasers such as CO2 and erbium can help flatten raised scars. Also, treatment with injectable steroids could help. It’s always best to get several opinions prior to proceeding with treatment. Each of these options may require multiple visits/treatments.
