Unfortunately, hydrogel can cause inflammation, infection, and foreign-body reaction. This is why it is not FDA-approved in the US. I have taken care of many patients with similar complaints as you. They have gotten good results with long term suppressive antibiotics, anti-inflammatory steroids, and surgical excision of the hydrogel. Even in the best case scenario, some redness and darkness can persist. Good Luck.
Hello jaye35, I appreciate your questions! Foreign materials and filler injections included but not limited to Silicone, Biogel, Hydrogel, Biopolymer, PMMA, and Aqua gel are not-FDA approved for body contouring and are extremely harmful to the human body. The physical complications occurring from these injections include granulomas, lumps, bumps, itching, burning, skin discoloration, joint pain, tingling of the nerves, nerve damage, muscle damage, numbness, pulmonary edema, and possible loss of limb and/or life. It is important that patients who have had silicone and/or other non-FDA approved filler injections for body contouring (even without any manifestation of adverse effects) consult with an experienced plastic surgeon to be evaluated and discuss their particular condition and potential risks for complications. A Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan may be necessary to determine the location of the injected material. The treatment varies from patient to patient, since no two cases are exactly the same. This may range from surgical excision, to hyaluronidase injection followed by VASER Liposuction and fat transfer into the area to correct the resultant deformity. With appreciation, Dr. De La Cruz.
Hydrogel injection cause significant inflammatory response, granuloma formation and late infections. The inflammation caused pigmentation changes that are very difficult to treat. The hydrogel can be partially removed, A CT, Scan is helpful to see where the foreign material is. The majority can be removed by surgery, It will leave some sort of deformity of the buttocks that can be repaired later with surgery.
I believe that you may have had three silicone injections. This treatment has a high complication rate and can lead to disastrous outcomes including grotesque disfigurements. There are, however, patients who have done very well with these treatments and have developed nice contours with no long-term problems. This is a procedure that is not typically performed in the United States and is often done by laypeople in other countries. It is not possible to remove the silicone once it is injected.I suggest you contact the plastic surgeon to get an evaluation as soon as possible. If your treatment was done by a legitimate board-certified plastic surgeon, then you may want to consider following up with him or her to see what his or her thoughts are as well.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
Hello, am sorry about the look of your buttocks but that is a normal complications of this procedure. Visit a certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you and discuss a possible solution. Good luck
Hello dear!! Thanks for the question and provided information as well. Looks like you could benefit from a fat transfer procedure, but unfortunately, without pictures, it is very difficult to give you a proper answer. l recommend you to make an appointment with a board certified plastic ...
Dear nana30If you only have skin marking from the injection site, time will help the pigment dissipate. If you have firm areas underneath and an inflammatory process, then anti-inflammatory injections might help.
In areas where the material can not be removed, injection of local acting steroid (kenalog) might prove helpful to limit and control the inflammatory process.
