I had previously seen a doctor about masseter botox to make my face look more feminine. He talked me out of it he believed it could cause jowling and recommended kybella to under my chinand in my buccal fat. While it did slim down my jawline a little I'm still not happy. I recently had jawline filler as well that helped smooth the area out but still made me feel heavy in my lower face.Would like to try the masseter botox but afraid it will make the lower face worst or could it potentially help?

Answer: Candidate for Botox in the masseter? From your photos, you appear to be a good candidate for Botox in the masseter muscles. I would want to examine the muscle in person and discuss potential symptoms that often accompany an enlarged masseter, including frequent jaw clenching or teeth grinding. This treatment is quick and relatively painless, with results that typically last 3-4 months or longer depending on the dose used. Botox can cause more jowling in other patients with loose skin because if the masseter is smaller, the skin can slide forward towards the jowls. In your case, you seem young and I think some reduction in masseter size with Botox would give a pretty slimming of the face. Starting with smaller doses will be a safe way to prevent jowling. Botox is not surgery, but it does require precision in dosing and placement to achieve a natural result. Make sure you work with a board-certified dermatologist who has extensive experience using Botox to ensure an optimal outcome.

Answer: Best choices for slimming the lower face Thank you for your question and photos. It appears you might be a very good candidate for Botox injections into the masseter muscle, which would slim the jawline and likely provide the result you want. This treatment is frequently recommended for patients who persistently clench or grind their teeth and relieves the symptoms that accompany these actions as well. The treatment should only be performed by an experienced, board-certified injector with expertise in treating the masseter muscle. Treating the masseter does not cause jowl formation - skin laxity can develop as part of the aging process over time and lead to this issue. There are numerous treatment options for jowls, should this concern ever arise.
