Puffy arreola 2 months after breast augmentation and lift? What can I do? (photo)

Question

I had breast aug and lift done on April 23rd, 2018. My right breast has a puffy arreola most of the time. Sometimes it looks normal. My surgeon said it’s still very early in my recovery and to continue wearing sports bras as much as possible. Is there anything else I can do? Is this swelling? Is it permanent?

The areola puffiness you see generally settles down after several months.  When a breast lift is done, the breast tissue below the nipple is repositioned and is under a little bit more pressure from behind.  Sometimes the areolas will protrude a little more during the healing process.  The firmness or “induration” of the breast tissue can persist for 4 to 6 months. When this tissue softens, the areolar protrusion will generally go down a little.  Give it some time. Also keep in mind that from an aesthetic standpoint, it does not look bad or abnormal.  Some patients desire this look!  Best wishes to you.

Dear jcool,Your photos indicate typical post-op swelling.  This should resolve over time.  You could do regular consistent scar massage and consider a scar gel to the incisions as well.  Be patient; things look normal to date and should continue to improve.  Hope this helpsJames Sheridan, MD

This should settle with time. The most important thing you said is that at times it looks normal. If this is the case it should be temporary and as time passes things will get better.
