I have a recessed chin (and TMJ). Attached are photos of me with a closed mouth and another where I'm jutting my jaw forward so my teeth are on top of each other (no overbite). I need to find a plastic surgeon but don't know if I should get botox in the jaw or filler in my chin? How can this best be corrected? Will botox "slide" my jaw forward to ease the double chin and proportion my profile? Or do I need an an orthodontist? Is the jaw asymmetry potentially from overactive muscle on one side?
Answer: How to enhance natural beauty First of all, your profile photos are stunningly attractive. Asymmetry is normal for everyone. Most of these non surgical procedures are temporary and you will have to do them over and over again. Have an in-person consultation with an excellent plastic surgeon and discuss your options. Yes, Kybella is going to help you with double chin, Botox can help you with Bruxism. Best wishes, Dr. Shanthala

Answer: Facial evaluation Hello and thank you for your question. The best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation. There are many possible options to improve your submental region and facial asymmetry, including possible possible, submental liposuction, and chin augmentation. This decision should be based on a detailed discussion with equal input from both you and your surgeon. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. FACS Harvard-trained plastic surgeon

Answer: Recessed jaw Thank you for submitting your questions and photos. If you have not had a consultation with an orthodontist, I would suggest starting there, based on your assessment that you may need to have adjustment made to the lower jaw, and the presence of TMJ. They may suggest surgery if there is improper alignment of the upper and lower jaw. If you are orthodontically correct, then a consultation with a plastic surgeon would be the next step. You might consider a chin implant or chin filler for your profile concerns. Botox can be used to relax the masseter muscle to minimize the fullness of the left jawline, and to relax the chin if it pulls forward, but cannot move the jaw forward. Botox injected into the masseter can also be of value with TMJ issues. Filler can also be placed along the right jawline to add fullness to adjust for asymmetry. Another consideration for the correction of your profile overall is Kybella, which is a series of injections to dissolve chin fat. Best wishes as you pursue your concerns!

Answer: Profile Issues Hello and thank you for your question. I see a two fold solution to your profile issues. First the "sub-mentum" or the area beneath your chin and neck line. Kybella is a treatment that eliminates fat as in the "double chin". It is not inexpensive as it's price is about $600 per Ampule. I think you may get by with one or two ampules. Next I would suggest a chin augmentation with the filler of your choice. In combination these two techniques would offer you a significant change in your profiles appearance. I like Juvederm Ultra or Voluma in the chin. Talk with your injector about my suggestions,. Best of luck to you with whatever you decide to do.

Answer: Recessed chin and neck bulge You would be a candidate for liposuciton, kybella or cool sculpting for the double chin..I offer all 3 but generally recommend lipo because its easy to be precise and its very predictable.. kybella has more swelling and bruising and cool sculpting can be more expensive.I love bellafill for a "weak" chin... i inject directly on the bone and sometimes go laterally from the point of the chin along the jaw line. there are some photos on my profile
