I had masseter Botox 3 days ago, when will I feel the effects?

Question

I had the Botox injected into my masseters and temporalis for bruxism. Total dosage was 60 units. On the first day my jaw felt weakened, but now that's worn off and I'm back to normal again. Did something go wrong during the procedure?

Hello,Thank you for your question. Botox takes approximately 14 days for maximum effect but most individuals will feel some effect taking place 3-6 days after the initial treatment. Hope this helps!

- 1. Feel effect within 1 week. Meaning your jaw feels more tired when chewing food.
- 2. See visible changes in 1 month. Meaning the jaw slimming effect takes place.

Botox can take 3 days to 2 weeks to see its full effect.  It sounds like you got an appropriate amount of Botox per side so it should work. I would recommend going back to the provider that did the injections after 2 weeks for a follow up.  Don't be frustrated until you wait the full 14 days.  Good luck.

The initial relaxation you felt the first day was from the swelling from the liquid or solution the botox came in.   It should start to relax days 4-7 and full effect by 10 days.   If you don't feel relaxed after 2 weeks then I would contact the injector to inquire about what happened but at this time its still a bit early.

The effects of Botox can start being seen in two days but the norm is between 3 to 7 days. Final results need at least 14 days. So be patient.

In the majority of people, Botox takes effect anywhere from 3 to 5 days, sometimes even longer. The weakness you felt the first day is simply due to the trauma caused by the needle. Be patient and good luck from New York City

Hi citizen22, You were given an appropriate dose of Botox, Typically we use even less at 50 units, 25 on each side. Your masseters must really be strong. Wait for at least a week before going back to your doctor for a touch-up. As you have more treatments, the muscles get weaker and you'll see/feel the results sooner.All the best, Justin Harper, M.D.

Good morning. If it only has been 3 days, I would wait at least 7 days before re-evaluating how you feel. Botox takes 4-7 days to really start working. So, be a bit more patient. Good luck.
