I have narrow hips as well as "hip dips". I want a procedure that would transfer fat from my belly to my hips to give the appearance of wider hips. However, I'm not looking for projection in the back. I just want fat transferred to make the hips appear wider. I thought this procedure would be a "skinny" BBL but I don't want projection or lift in the back... just "wider" hips. What procedure would I need?
Answer: Fat transfer to the hips Thanks for your question. It is difficult to answer your question without examining you myself and seeing your hip dips. However, it is possible to transfer fat to only the hip area. Personally, I like to blend the fat from the hips in to the buttocks so everything flows, but your buttocks doesn't necessarily need to get bigger. Make sure you consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. Good luck!

Answer: Fat transfer Dear jihanemo, it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations. Answer: What procedure am I looking for? I want to transfer fat from my belly to my hips Terminology can be confusing. The classic BBL is liposuction of areas of the body (primarily the abdomen, waist, flanks, & back) with ultrasound guided fat injections into the total buttock (that is projection &/or hip dips). A Lateral BBL or HipDip BBL or even Skinny BBL can all mean only fat grafting to hips. So always best to specify to your chosen surgeon the "exact" arras you desire fat grafting. Good Luck....

Answer: What is in the name of a procedure If the procedure needs her name then what you are looking for is a BBL that emphasizes the hips and lateral buttocks primarily. Most of my BBL procedures end up putting a substantial emphasis on the hips but it varies a lot depending on the person‘s assessment. Likewise, the candidacy or the ability to get a quality outcome it’s also highly patient dependent on a multitude of factors. Recognize that a BBL or a fat transfer procedure is in fact two operations done at the same time. This means the patients need to be assessed and likewise also need to vet plastic surgeons for both Liposuction and fat transfer. It’s possible for someone to be an excellent candidate for Liposuction but not be a good candidate for fat transfer, a good candidate for fat transfer but not Liposuction, a good candidate for both and not a good candidate for either. The process typically begins by getting an assessment in which case both the doctor and the patient get a clear understanding of what your body looks like and where you’re trying to take it or what type of changes you’re hoping to achieve. The surgeon and then decipher what can and cannot be achieved with various treatment options based on your candidacy. Round number of factors that determine the type of results and individual can expect from both Liposuction and fat transfer. For example fat transfer is highly limited based on the amount to post tissue available to support fat grafts. If your hips are very thin with only skin over muscle and almost no subcutaneous fat and this severely limits how much fat can successfully be grafted in this area in a single procedure. Plastic surgeons can in general double the soft tissue thickness in a certain area with grafting fat. In other words if you have 1/2 inch of subcutaneous fat in your hip area it can be brought out to 1 inch with one round of fat transfer. Likewise there are multiple variables to determine what type of liposuction results you can obtain. The major limiting variable for liposuction tends to be related to skin quality. Ideal candidate for liposuction can be described as young titan pudgy. This means older individuals or individuals with significant pregnancy related changes or skin laxity due to weight fluctuations may not get the best liposuction results. The best way to get a good assessment if they have an in person consultation with a skilled and experienced plastic surgeon. There is a significant variation in skill and experience when it comes to the BBL procedure. This operation probably has more variation in outcomes based purely on who does the operation than any other plastic surgery procedure. Both Liposuction and fat transfer should be considered permanent and irreversible. If done poorly people can be left disfigured. The number of plastic surgeons who can do these procedures well on a consistent basis including accurately predict outcomes based on making an accurate assessment is relatively small. To find the best provider I recommend patients have multiple in person consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons in the community. During each consultation ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before and after pictures. Being shown a handful of preselected sample pictures which most likely represent the best results of the providers career is insufficient to get a clear understanding of an average results look like in the hands of each provider. you also need to get some reference for how many of these procedures a surgeon has performed. I recommend patients specifically ask providers to open up their entire collection of before and after pictures and show only pictures of previous patients who had similar body characteristics to your own. As providers to show you examples of excellent outcomes, average outcomes and outcomes that did not turn out as well as they had hoped. We all have a variety of different types of results and it’s fair for patients to ask to see them. Reviewing the results make sure you can see the entire torso from the shoulders to below the knees. For a reference and experience surgeon should have no difficulty showing you at least 50 that’s a before and after pictures commonly performed procedures like the BBL. We need to assess Liposuction results separately from fat transfer results. Wonderful section look at all areas treated and make sure there are no skin contour irregularities anywhere. Ask the provider to clarify exactly what areas for treated and what areas were not treated and look carefully at transition zone between treated and on treated areas. For fat transfer make absolutely sure that after pictures were taken a minimum of three months from the date of surgery. Early fat transfer results can look very impressive but do not at all in anyway represent final results. Fat transfer results vary more overtime than any other plastic surgery procedure. It takes at least 3 to 6 months before patients know what fat transfer results would look like long-term. Take notes during each consultation for a reference so you can remember and compare between different providers. I suggest you start with at least five consultations and considering scheduling many more if you have questions or concerns. Provider selection and understanding your candidacy for the procedure are absolutely Paramount in long-term satisfaction. You need to have a very clear understanding of what it is and what is not possible with the procedure and should be shown very clear examples about your results will look like based on previous patient with a very similar body characteristics to your own during the consultation. When in doubt slow down and schedule more consultations. In the end there are only two variables that matter. Your candidacy and the skill of the surgeon. There isn’t much people can do to change their own candidacy. Some people are simply really good candidates and others are simply not good candidates. For individuals who are not perfect candidates for the procedure you may still decide to move forward with the procedure but expectations need to be set accordingly. It’s officially skilled and experienced surgeon should be able to do that accurately. Good luck, Mats Hagstrom MD
