How to prevent scar tissue from growing back after rhinoplasty?

Scar tissue band scan form inside of the nose and caused blockage, and narrowing of the internal nasal valves. If surgical repair is indicated for this, I think that silicone splints may be placed to help prevent recurrence. Wishing you well. Sincerely, Dr. Joseph

This is a great question! I agree that steroid injections early on can prevent scar tissue (hypertrophic scarring, keloid) from forming again. Oftentimes, I will inject steroids right when I remove the scar tissue while still in surgery. After that, I would see you back every couple weeks to re-evaluate and consider injecting again if there are any signs the scar tissue is trying to come back. Silicone sheets could help but that is a really hard area to get the sheets to stick and stay in place.

Steroid injections after surgery can have benefit in improving hypertrophic or keloid scarring. It is important to remember that these injections may not be protective against adverse scarring.

I’m guessing this is your second post regarding scar tissue after rhinoplasty.
As mentioned in my previous response, consideration to anti-inflammatory, steroid injections may be an option.
