How do you prevent calluses after rhinoplasty?

I understand that scar tissue is inevitable but is there a way to minimize or prevent calluses from forming after dorsal hump reduction and osteotomy?

The temporary development of swelling and scar tissue is normal after any surgical procedure and there are no proactive therapies to consider to reduce this problem with a rhinoplasty.  Follow the advise of your plastic surgeon to get the best possible result.

Hi,There isn't much you can do.  Sometimes gentle massage helps.  But mostly your healing is determined by how meticulous and atraumatic your surgeon is.  The operation must be done in the proper surgical plane.  For example dorsal hump reduction rasping should be done under the periosteum and not over it.  But your genetics determine how you heal. Steroid injections may help with callus formation.

In my more than 30 years of practice, I've found out that a thorough removal of bone dust from hump removal and early steroid injection are helpful in preventing callus formation.
