Power-assisted liposuction can help remove fat efficiently, but it does not eliminate the normal swelling that comes from surgical trauma and lymphatic disruption. The best preparation is to enter surgery as healthy and stable as possible: avoid nicotine, keep protein intake adequate, stay well hydrated, limit excess salt and alcohol, and follow your surgeon’s instructions about medications, supplements, and anything that can increase bleeding or bruising. After surgery, swelling is usually managed with the correct compression garment, early gentle walking, avoiding overexertion, and keeping all follow-up visits. Lymphatic massage is sometimes helpful, but only if your surgeon approves the timing and technique. Expect the abdomen and thighs to swell for weeks, with final contour changes taking several months rather than days.
