2 weeks post-op there is a mass above my groin. Is it a seroma or something that needs to be removed? (photo)

Question

I received BBL April 12th. The area above my vagina/groin area was very bruised and swollen afterward, with 2 incisions. In the last couple days it has gone from squishy and swollen to a firmer consistency you can palpate. It feels like a hot dog under the skin on each side. The right side feels bigger. I live in Oregon and my surgeon is in Cali, just wonder if it could be seromas? Or something that needs removed. I tried marking on the picture where you can palpate the firmer swelling.

Congratulations on your recent surgery. Unfortunately, it's really difficult to say without examining you in person. A seroma typically feels like fluid under the skin, but could certainly feel firm also. Typically an area of  firmness is simply normal postoperative swelling after liposuction. Swelling does tend to accumulate at the lowest part of your abdomen as the fluid tends to settle in this area. Congratulations again on your procedure.

you are still in early stage of recovery process and you can expect some swelling. I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment. Only after thorough examination you can get proper recommendations and advice.

You are still early on the healing process, it can take up to six months to see your final results, so please be patient. At the stage you are in, inflammation and bruising are normal.
If you have any concerns, please follow up close with your plastic surgeon.

hard to say by pictures alone.  You need an examination to determine if you have a seroma. Most likely you do not have one but if you do it needs intervention.  I continue to emphasize staying local for surgical procedures. I say this because people need postoperative care, complications happen and patients need revisions.  Perhaps now you understand what I have been referring to. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
