I am 18 days post breast reduction. Concerned about a popping feeling in my left rib area when I walk. Should I be worried?

I had drain tubes placed, stayed overnight in hospital and had them removed the next day before discharge. At 2 week recheck I was still having a small amount of drainage from the left side, but was told everything looks fine. I mentioned an uncomfortable popping feeling on my left side that feels like a rib is popping out of place when I walk. The doctor I saw said “oh, that’s too bad” and otherwise blew it off. What is the popping and should I get it checked again with different doctor?

First of all, congratulations on your breast reduction, kmb2000!
I suggest that you go to another reputable and board-certified plastic surgeon to get yourself personally checked up. It’s hard to know what’s causing that popping feeling without a physical examination, but it’s not something that you should just shrug off.

This is an interesting question, and I think warrants a more thorough exam/consult with your plastic surgeon.  If he/she can't associate it with the surgery then they should refer you to someone who can help evaluate it.  It seems unlikely that a breast reduction would cause this type of pain but it certainly warrants evaluation and your surgeon is the right person to start with.
