Which filler or procedure can make my small mouth and lips bigger and more symmetrical? (Photo)

Question

I slept on my stomach most of my life, and for the reason I believe that my jaw/teeth grew inward on one side. I also have a very very small mouth and lips, and lately have noticed that my lips are paper thin and no longer symmetrical. Other than fillers, is there anything that can correct this asymmetry? I recently started Invisalign, but after reading reviews here i am afraid it won't make much of a difference in my bite or arch. Is this true?

These fillers, (Volbella, Restylane, Juvederm) are good to create a symmetrical and full lip. Implants or fat are alternatives. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a facial sculpting expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Hi Miss RN, the simplest option is use of fillers such as Restylane or Volbella to help fill out your lips and realign symmetry.  There are other options including lip excision procedures which may leave permanent scarring that can be difficult to hide.  Best of luck to you!

Invisalign is advertised as an alternative orthodontic device (some studies in pubmed report less effectiveness with invisalign compared to conventional braces). If your concerns are the size, shape and position of teeth and jaws (occlusion) you should see an orthognathic specialist for a thorough evaluation. Lip symmetry can be achieved with fillers which will also increase lip size. Mouth size (the opening of the mouth) will not be affected by fillers.

Based on your photo you would be a great candidate for lip filler, which is going to be your best option for adding volume and creating symmetry. I like Restylane as it creates the most natural look for the lips, however Juvederm is good as well for someone seeking a more voluminous look. Filler in the lips can last anywhere from 4-6 months before it needs to be repeated. I would recommend an in-person consultation with a board-certified dermatologist to discuss your needs and goals and determine which filler would be right for you.
