I am seriously considering sliding genioplasty for a bigger chin and more defined jawline. I also want rhinoplasty to thin my nose from the front. I know with genioplasty there are screws placed but can these screws be removed after the bone gap is filled in? How long woul

Aestheticsfirst,Having a rhinoplasty and genioplasty at the sometime is very good treatment plan. The recovery from a rhinoplasty where you can be "restaurant ready" is about 10 days depending on the amount of bruising and swelling you will experience. This is different for everyone. The genioplasty procedure also has a "restaurant ready" recovery period of approximately 10 days. Both procedures will continue to heal for months after, approximately 80% of the swelling will resolve in 3 weeks and the remainder over the following year.  After the bone heals in its new position the titanium screws and plates can be removed. I would recommend not, unless there is a real issue with the screws. Its another incision, with the same amount of swelling and potential for nerve injury or muscle injury, or mentalis dissinsertion.  Another option, is an extended anatomic chin implant that would be stabilized with titanium screws, of course if you are not opposed to an implant. Best of luck

A sliding genioplasty is usually performed as an inpatient procedure hospital with an overnight stay by an oral surgeon. A rhinoplasty is performed as an outpatient procedure under brief general anesthetic.   A chin implant can be inserted at the same time as the rhinoplasty procedure, both performed as an outpatient procedure. Recovery time for visible swelling and bruising will be 2 weeks, however full healing  takes a year. The screws are made of titanium. They do not have to be removed. However, if you wish to remove them, you would have to wait 6-8 months.
