I am a fitness instructor. The formats I teach are high impact and include using hand weights and body weight exercises (pushups). Even my low impact class includes "chest work"; pushups, downward dog etc. The biggest thing that's holding me back from a breast augmentation is recovery time. I want VERY modest results. Will getting smaller implants shorten the recovery time at all?
Answer: Size of implant and recovery time Hi Deflated,While I think that a smaller implant does allow swelling and tenderness to decrease more rapidly, it is still important not to lift or push /pull anything over 15 pounds for 5-6 weeks post surgery so as not to disrupt the suture line or cause a bleed within the pocket. If you do too much, it is possible to displace the implant and you could then be uneven. It is well worth it for you to take it easy so that your recovery time proceeds without complications.Best,Dr. Christine Rodgers

Answer: Breast augmentation recovery I appreciate your question.Recovery time is variable from person to person. However, it is reasonable to see someone with a smaller implant and less muscle stretch recover a little quicker. The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam. Please see a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic and restorative breast surgery.best of luck!Dr Schwartz

Answer: Implant size definitely effects recovery from breast augmentation and return to exercise Hi, Thanks for posting your question. I am happy to try and help you. It is important to remember that a board certified plastic surgeon will be your best resource when it comes to an accurate assessment of your situation, and concerns. Having said that, I typically recommend 3 weeks before increasing heart rate, 4 weeks before going to the gym. By then you should have a pretty good idea about what activities hurt. As a general rule, if it still hurts, then don't do it. Best wishes, Dr. Michael J. Brown Northern Virginia Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Exercise after implants Thanks for your question. I often do breast augmentation on competitive athletes and fitness competitors and return to exercise is a common concern. Regardless of implant size, I have my patients refrain from pectoral work for 4-6 weeks after surgery to lessen the risk of complications and implant displacement if placed under the muscle. Discuss the recovery time with your plastic surgeon as they may vary his or her recommendation.
