Can I get an IPL treatment 1 week before microneedling?

Question

I know microneedling before IPL would be ideal, but with my appointments for each treatment appropriately scheduled, I noticed that it just so happens I have my last IPL 1 week before microneedling. Thanks.

Yes, It is fine to have an IPL treatment one week before microneedling.  We often perform these treatments on the same day.

Yes, a patient can receive an IPL treatment one week prior to microneedling. However, if a patient has a skin type IV-VI it may be best to wait to receive microneedling treatments in order to prevent hyperpigmentation. This can be discussed with your healthcare provider.
The common side effects of an IPL treatment include temporary redness and mild to moderate “sunburn”- like effects that may last a few hours to 3-4 days. As long as the patient is not experiencing any side effects from the IPL treatment, it may be perfectly fine to receive a microneedling treatment for those with skin types I-III. Please seek a board-certified dermatologist to determine if you are an ideal candidate for the procedure.

There is no contraindication to microneedling one week after IPL. In fact, we perform radio frequency microneedling one week after IPL, which produces a greater tissue response than microneedling alone.

There should be no need for both procedures.   They both help with skin surfacing problems, such as excess pigment.   Pick one.

Absolutely. In my practice I do IPL and microneedling the same day. It is not recommended to perform microneedling the same day as fillers, Botox, or Xeomin. In other words you do not want to have injectables done over microneedling and vice versa.
