I am 8 days post-op. I had lower lid blepharoplasty. I was told by the nurse and surgeon that the incision and stitches would be just under my bottom lashes. When I got home and looked in the mirror, I was mortified at incision location. Is this location common? Why would the incision be in this location? Am I going to have scars? The location of my incisions doesn't look anything like I'm seeing on the Internet. Please help. Is this normal?
Answer: Why are my scars not where they are supposed to be? Hi Desermist,Thank you for your questions and excellent photos. Your scars are certainly not where over 90% of plastic surgeons would place them. They are usually below the eyelashes (below the greyline) typically where permanent make up is located on the lower eyelid. The only time I've seen this kind of incision is for reconstructive purposes and for surgeons that have not been trained properly to conceal the scar in a more hidden location. Most of the time, the reason this incision is placed where it is is based on simple convenience and ease of closing the incision. There is always a concern about ectropion or where the lower eyelid hangs lower than it should be because the supporting structures where more relaxed than the skin scar. There will certainly be a scar in the future based on your current scar, but rest assured that typically it blends away into a typical wrinkle. It will take some time before the scar redness fades away. Discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon.Good Luck! All the best,Carlos Mata MD, MBA, FACSBoard Certified Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Pinch blepharoplasty incision location Thank you for sharing. A "pinch" blepharoplasty is usually much closer to the eye lashes. Speak to your surgeon about your specific case. Allow for time to heal and for the sutures to come out. Best wishes

Answer: Lower lid incision This scar is lower than most of us would place it, but I have seen other surgeons who do it this way. The norm is to put it directly below the lash line in the small crease that is there so that you don't see it. The lower lid usually heals very well so you should see very little scar here once it is healed.

Answer: Pinch blepharoplasty incision position Every doctor does things slightly differently. We do not do the pinch blepharoplasty in any patient because we believe it changes lower eyelid position. Rather, we would perform a cheek lift to create an upward force to counteract the downward force of tissue being resected. In your case, you are best off allowing the healing to take place completely, then assess to see if the result and incision placement are satisfactory to you. If you decide you would want the incision placed higher and closer to the eyelash line, this will be a complex undertaking requiring a cheek lift, which is a technically difficult. However you would get additional rejuvenation of the eye cheek region.

Answer: Eyelid scar revision from previous lower blepharoplasty Incision line for skin pinch lower blepharoplasty needs to be just below the lower eyelid lash line. It appears your incision deveates from that. Scar revision may be possible. Need proper evaluation. See an oculoplastic surgeon.
