Liposuction is not a weight-loss technique. It is a mechanical means of removing excess fat from the body, including from underneath the chin. After your liposuction, you will maintain your newly contoured proportions, whether you gain or lose weight. The liposuction will not affect fat in the rest of your body, including the face. If you want to lose weight in your face, you will need to do so by losing weight overall. You may also want to consider noninvasive fat-elimination techniques, such as Vanquish, CoolSculpting and ThermiTight. Please consult a board-certified dermatologist who can help you decide how to contour your body with liposuction or other techniques.
Liposuction of parts of the anatomy other than the facial area will not result in less fat on the face. However, if you gain weight, the fat will not accumulate as readily in the areas liposuctioned. Therefore, you may accumulate more fat in the other areas, such as the face.Kenneth Hughes, MD, Board Certified Plastic SurgeonLos Angeles, CA
Thank you for your question. Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure rather a body contouring surgery. Unless you are having liposuction performed on your chin, there will be no correlation between liposuction on other parts of your body to your face. I would consult with a PS to further discuss what your goals.
Liposuction is not for weight loss its for contouring and you will need to diet and exercise for additional weight loss after the procedure. Best, Dr. Emer.
Having liposuction on your body will have no affect on your face. Only diet and exercise will thin your face.
Dear skou00,no, liposuction will not cause loss of weight in your face. It will only remove fat tissue in treated areas. I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, Am. Society of Plastic Surgery
Liposuction only addresses the fat in the treated area. It has not effect on the other parts of the body. If you gain weight, you may appear to gain disproportionately in the untreated areas because you've had fat cells removed in the treated ones.
Liposuction in one part of the body does not affect fat in another part of the body. The effect is localized and is not transferable. It is a localized suctioning of unwanted fat.
Having liposuction elsewhere on the body should have no direct impact on the fat of your face. Only direct liposuction will do this - or, of course, weight loss.Steven Turkeltaub, MD
You've asked an excellent question. My practice is devoted exclusively to liposuction and fat transfer procedures.I am of the general belief that patients after liposuction will sometimes drift back to their pre-procedure weight. If someone had two liters of fat removed they should technically I've lost around 4 pounds. If three months later the weight had not changed then they have technically gained 4 pounds. That added 4 pounds is evenly distributed along the patients fat distribution which includes facial fat. It's not uncommon for people who have liposuction of the full abdomen and back to six months later and say they feel their thighs are larger. This is not the case for everyone. Many people get excited about having liposuction and start exercising and losing weight and become more healthy after. If you have liposuction and have no change in weight meeting you are slightly lighter long-term after your procedure your face should not change in anyway. Best,Mats Hagstrom M.D.
There is nothing that you can personally do prior to liposuction. However, you sound like an ideal candidate for laser or ultrasound-assisted liposuction. Both of these energy devices can help break up the connective tissue during the liposuction procedure, which "loosens" up the fat...
Hi. There are many studies that have shown that patients undergoing hormone replacemnet and or are on birth control pills are at a slightly higher risk for a pulmonary embolus that those that are not. Because you are undergoing a combined procedure that includes lipo, I would definitely advise...
