BA areola incision infected? Stitches underneath healed skin. (photos)

Question

I had my stitches removed at 3 weeks. I am now 4 weeks post op and have several scabs and holes around entire areola? Is this normal? When the stitches were taken out I was bleeding and dr said to put peroxide and than scar cream on the area. I am afraid that I will have areola deformities and scars. There are also black spots under the skin that look like part of the stitches, how can I get these out?

Hello,You have multiple contaminated/infected sutures that need to be removed so you can heal.  You were never a good candidate for a periareolar lift, and you will experience significant areolar spread over the next six months. Best of luck.

I am sorry to see that you are having problems following your surgery. This is the reason why I do not use this approach in my patients. Unfortunately, there can be an increasted risk of infection with this approach as the milk ducts can be colonised with bacteria. It also results in disruption of the breast gland. If large implants are placed and there is considerable tension from within then the scars can stretch as is happening in your case. The spots that you see are probably areas where you have buried absorbable sutures. These will settle with time as the suture dissolves. However, if any of the sutures knots are seen exposed, you could have these trimmed off to help things settle quicker. An infra mammary scar is much better as it is tucked away in the breast crease and settles as a fine line. It gives much better access to dissecting the pocket for the breast implant and it does not disrupt the breast gland. Also risks of infection, need for removal of implant and possibily reduced risk of capsular contractures as there are some theories of a low grade infection in capsular contractures (tight tissue envelope around the implant).

dear, thanks for your question and provided information as well..I have to say
that you are still early on healing process, it is too soon to determine how
your results are going to be, per now, they look very nice and beautiful, you
can have one bigger than the other, it is normal and that can happen for the
first 3 months until your implants have settle in. I recommend you to wait and
keep using your post surgical bra, that will help you with the shape and
support. Hugs!
