What can I do for nose implant embedded/poking through? (photo)

Hello Doctors. I need advice about a rhino procedure I had 6 months ago. I like the shape of my nose after the surgery, but now I saw this outline at the tip of my nose that I'm suspecting is the implant. I don't feel pain , but I'm just really worried and freaking out about it. I'll be going to my surgeon this Saturday to check it up. Hopefully he'll have a solution and fix this. I would like to know recommendations about this. Thank you.

Your rhinoplasty surgeon will be able to tell you if an implant was used. If you feel it's moving, unfortunately many times it does emerge through the skin. I don't want to say that's whats happening here though, I'd defer to your surgeon. Hope this helps and God Bless!Dr. Robb Jr.

I'm sorry this happened to you. Sometimes implants can shift, and especially in people with thin skin, the implant (or grafts fashioned from your own cartilage) can become visible. If it is a synthetic implant, it does not look infected based on your photo, which is good news, but likely will need to be removed vs repositioned/trimmed depending on how close it is to the surface of your skin. If it is a cartilage graft, it can be salvaged more easily. A fascia graft could also help camouflage the outline of a revised graft.  I suggest you discuss this with your surgeon. He/she will be able to discuss with you what type of implant it is, and discuss the next step. Good luck!

Sorry to hear about your problem.  It appears that you have a sylastic implant in place and (as they usually do) they can start to migrate toward the tip of the nose.  Unfortunately if this continues the implant can erode through the skin.  I am sure your surgeon will recommend the appropriate treatment but in my estimation I would 1. remove the implant  2. allow the area to heal (4-5 months) 3. then replace the implant  with a non-migrating implant such as Alloderm or a long lasting filler.
