Would a sliding genioplasty be for me?

Good afternoon! I am writing because I am very self conscious about my small/weak chin and lack of a jaw line. I think it makes me look like I sort of have a double chin no matter how much weight I lose. I have tmj, which I am in the process of getting treated with splints. Should I get the sliding genioplasty before or after my tmj has been resolved? Or should I consider something else such as chin/jaw augmentation? Thanks!!!

It is difficult to make a useful recommendation as you have presented no picture of your jawline appearance. Generally a sliding genioplasty is going to provide a better chin and neck change as it pulls the some of the neck muscles and an attachment of the tongue forward. (which helps lengthen the neck as well as the chin) This is particularly relevant in someone who is young and as a significantly short lower jaw. The issue of splints for your TMJ treatment has no impact on what you may or may not do for your chin aesthetics.

A sliding genioplasty can be considered when there is extensive issues with your teeth not fitting together properly. A sliding genioplasty is performed at a hospital and expect one to 2 days overnight stay in the hospital. A chin implant is performed for cosmetic purposes and is done under local anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. For many examples, please see the link below
