I heard about Dr. Hirst from a friend. I had been going to a specialist about my eyes for quite a few years, but, he didn't seem too concerned. I decided to go and see what Dr. Hirst had to say about my eyes, just for a second opinion. As I thought, the Pterygiums had to be removed. I had two removed in 2017, best choice I ever made. My eyes are the whitest I have seen in many years, also, no dryness, or itching, or weeping. I had very little pain, only taking a few panadol. I know everyone is different but I thought I'd be in more pain. Even my nephew said I'd be in a dark room for a few days as he has had his done by another doctor. NO. I was up and about the next day. YYYaaahhhh!!!!!!!! Even people say to me, "Gosh your eyes look good" It makes ME feel good. I would go to Dr. Hirst in a heartbeat and recommend him to everyone. I returned to work two weeks after the operation.I will be returning to him in the future. Thank you so much.
I had a put off getting my problematic wisdom teeth out for 6 years now. Due to a horrific experience in my adolescents and non stop issues with my teeth from childhood, I haven't been able to ever walk into a dentist without a panic attack. 2 weeks ago I was in soo much agony, I literally rung every Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon within a 50km radius desperately trying to get in for Surgery as soon as possible. The reception staff were extremely understanding of my nervousness and helpful facilitating me with the information I needed to obtain a referral and booked me in for a consultation within days. Dr. Julian Hirst seen me at his practice on level 1 at Chermside Day Hospital. There was no dentist smell, no prodding tools, no dentist chair. My crippling anxiety was instantly put to rest. The Dr. Listened to all my concerns, explaining in depth the procedure, it's risks and what to expect with my recovery. Not that he sugar coated it, but his gentle demeanour and straightforward informative approach made me feel most confident finally going through with the surgery. I arrived and was looked after beautifully by all the nurses and most especially the anesthetist Dr. Moses. I was out for what felt like a 10mins nap, and woke up with no adverse reaction. I was in less than 2hrs & I am resting up at home with minimal swelling and pain. On discharge, A script for anti-inflammatory, pain relief and ice packs to take home as well as extensive home care advice. Seriously impressed by the entire experience. Especially the pumping music in theatre. Highly recommended!!
I'd hated my smile and my appearance since around age 14. I had braces in my teenage years that corrected my bite, but my prognathic jaw, small mid-face and large chin were never addressed. I was always incredibly self-conscious about smiling and having my photo taken. I approached orthodontist Dr Steven Scott in October 2013 as my teeth had moved because of a broken bonded retainer. He recommended jaw surgery and referred me to Dr Julian Hirst. In July 2014 (aged 22) I had a Le Fort I, a Bilateral Sagittal Split Osteotomy and a sliding genioplasty reduction. The surgery itself went smoothly, and while it is major surgery and there were certainly moments of great discomfort, I wouldn't change a thing. To say that it was the best decision of my life would be a total understatement. I have never been happier with my appearance, and emotionally I've never felt so good - I really do feel like a changed person. I'm thrilled with my results and the care that I have received. Updated on 17 Oct 2014: Updated on 16 Jan 2015: All done - braces came off yesterday morning just shy of 6 months post-op. So happy! Updated on 16 Jan 2015:
Dr. Julian Hirst recently extracted my wisdom teeth at the Chermside Day Hospital. With my dentist phobia, I was extremely anxious prior to surgery. After consulting with Julian however, he put my mind to rest by thoroughly investigating all causes for concern - which greatly differed to a previous experience whereby the Doctor was very quick to make assumptions without fiirst having all available information. Further to that, Julian has a very polite, kind and professional bedside manner. He was understanding, empathetic and took the time to explain necessary details. Post-op I am pleased to say that both pain and swelling has been minimal. The incision line in my gum is pencil thin and extremely neat. I am so happy that Dr Julian Hirst was my surgeon for this procedure. I will certainly be recommending him to friends and family.
I have nothing but praise for Dr Julian Hirst, and his team. Julian is kind, enthusiastic, goes out of his way to be helpful, and shows genuine care about others. Furthermore, although he's a first-rate surgeon and doctor, a more humble and approachable gentleman you are unlikely to meet. Like Julian, staff members, Casey, Sue, and Belinda, are friendly, compassionate, and professional, as are Danielle and the other anaesthesia specialists with whom Julian collaborates. I had some teeth, including my wisdom teeth, removed early this year. After the surgeries, I had minimal discomfort, no pain, and have healed exceptionally well. On returning, later in the year, for a consultation about dental implants, I was greeted most warmly, and immediately felt welcome and comfortable. I look forward to the next stage of treatment. My feedback, which, mind you, has been all good, has been welcomed and kindly acknowledged. Also, Julian gave his contact details, should I have any queries or concerns. His responses have been prompt and thorough. Casey has been amazingly helpful, and generous with her time, too. I've never felt as though I'm a bother, and there have been a few enquiries, given my interest in the medical field and curiosity in general. I'm most impressed with the care Julian and his team provides. Not to mention you can't do otherwise than like such lovely people. I'm happy to recommend them. For top-quality treatment in oral and maxillofacial surgery, look nowhere else. Updated on 4 Nov 2014: No, the procedure isn't a beauty enhancement for sinuses in which you can get the sexy sinuses you've always wanted. Because several people have asked about the procedure, I thought I'd post this: http://www.animated-teeth.com/tooth-implants/a-dental-implant-sinus-lift.htm There are other websites out there, and videos, that provide information. If you're considering the procedure, however, you should also discuss your individual case with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon or other dental specialist. Updated on 12 Dec 2014: Wish granted and then some. Almost a year has passed since my wisdom teeth were removed. I want to again say a special thank you to Julian and the team. I'm enjoying 2014's festive cheer without my wisdom teeth's unwelcome company, and look forward to welcoming dental implants' company in 2015. Also, thanks to the good people here on RealSelf for their valuable information, advice, and kindness. Season's greetings! Have a fabulous one!
hi,it's a complicated question to answer briefly, but yes you can. if you live in cairns then see a local dentist for an opinion first to ensure that there is not a less aggressive solution you should consider first, but as you are only a plane flight away from me then i am happy to give you some surgical options regarding individual implants, or "ALL-ON-4" rehabilitation of your entire mouth to give you new teeth. at a minimum i would need an "OPG" x-ray which your GP could probably get bulk-billed for you. worst-case scenario it would cost about 22k per jaw to replace all of the teeth in that one jaw but if you have private health insurance with hospital cover (preferable!) then you will get rebates out of this. please get in touch with my office if i can be of further assistance; if you are interested i will organise the CT of your jaws which is also needed; usually able to be bulk-billed also. hope to see you soon.julian
hi,the numbness will be from irritation of the local sensory nerves to your lip and will probably not change much after this length of time. this can happen after any type of surgery and i would not recommend that you pursue any treatment for this. if you develop pain rather than tingling then there is medication you can have prescribed to help with this. julian
hi,i am almost certain you do not need a lefort 1 procedure or any orthognathic surgery. I would need to see more photos but from the two you sent the only improvement i could recommend (and this is really trying hard to find something to improve) would be to reduce the "black triangle" visible at the corners of your mouth owing to either a wide smile (nothing wrong with that) or a narrow maxilla (hopefully correctable with orthodontics rather than surgery). if you were my patient i would advise you against any procedure other than orthodontics. best of luck....julian
hi,yes it is possible, but only to about 5mm owing to the rigidity of the palatal mucosa. If more expansion than this is required then a SAME is required first. best of luck.julian
hi,without knowing the details of your procedure, the answer is no. just keep your mouth clean with salty water rinses or alcohol-free savacol (or whatever is the equivalent in southlake that has chlorhexidine in it) and see your surgeon for a review this week. resuturing never works. the graft can still take even if partially exposed. best of luck.julian
