I'm looking to get tumescent lipo done on my stomach and back, but I can't take off of work for a long period of time. I do have an office job that requires long periods of sitting. I also don't have anyone to take care of me after surgery. Is this option even realistic for me?

Answer: How quickly... Nothing substitutes for good judgement when planning to undergo surgery, in order to optimize results and optimize the surgical experience. For liposuction of two major body sites, I encourage patients to plan a week out of the office, though many patients are on their phones and computers and doing some work within days. The truth is few patients really can take a full week away from their careers. But it is also true that you cannot expect to be making good judgements while on pain pills, and most people don't have simple 9-5 days. Most of my patients have complex personal and professional obligations that translate into 12-14 hour days or longer, and it is not reasonable to assume that you can go back to these obligations right after surgery. As noted by my colleagues, it is also necessary to have a responsible adult with you for a day after surgery, though nursing agencies are an option. I suggest that you defer considering surgery until your obligations will permit appropriate recovery. You may also want to consider a consultation with a BCPS to discuss non surgical body contouring, like coolsculpting, which does not necessitate any real down time. Best of luck.

Answer: TIME OFF AFTER LIPOSUCTION Liposuction is real surgery, and you need time to recover like any other surgery. You also want to optimize your results by following your surgeon's post operative instructions. The amount of recovery can also depend on the amount of fat removed, the number of hours in surgery, etc. Plan on several days and you absolutely should have someone with you the first 24 hours. It can be realistic for you if you plan well.
