Is it normal to have pain 8 months after liposuction?

I had a minimal amount of abdominal liposuction with my breast lift 8 months ago. My lipo post op pain was unbearable for the first week but slowly got better. That said, 8 months later, I still have tender areas. Is this normal? Most of what I read is that others had significantly less pain that did not last nearly as long.

Pain should be improved by 8 months. I typically recommend massaging out the tender areas at least twice a day with moisturizers - body butter or body oils. At this point in time it is possible a steroid injection will help treat focal pain.You should discuss this with your surgeon as far as tips or ideas of why you have this pain.

I am sorry you are having this problem and it is unusual to have severe pain, even right after liposuction. Presently it appears you are describing possible scar formation beneath the skin within the area of liposuction. A steroid injection may be all you need to soften the scar and decrease your discomfort. Ask your plastic surgeon about this option. Best of luck.

Pain at 8  months out is a bit unusual. It could be related to the type of device used for lipo, nerve issues, and/or scarring of tissue. Massage and time may help. An evaluation by your surgeon would be helpful to eliminate other potential causes.
