Permanent vs dissolvable sutures for diastasis muscle repair? (Photo)

Traditionally, diastasis recti repair has been with permanent sutures.  With a new generation of weight loss patients, have started to use absorable sutures for diastasis repair.  Also, Quill and other barbed sutures are used more frequently with diastasis repair.  Radiologic studies have shown comparable results postop.

Hello,Most surgeons use non-dissolvable sutures for diastasis recti repairs without a significant risk for complications. These sutures are well tolerated and ensure proper healing of the core muscles which can be subject to extreme forces. Hi. You are asking a very technical question. We use both types of suture depending on the plane we are working in the abdominal area. You should not be concern about this, since is a medical decision and you should trust your surgeons protocol.
