Can You Perform Smart Lipo of Abdomen Through Belly Button?

Question

I dont understand why most doctors do not enter through the belly button. I can imagine that it would prevet the scarring? Can someone explain.

While you may be able to use the belly button as one incision site, fat in your mid section needs to be accessed at different points, not just through your belly button. That's why a couple of incisions are made during the surgery, measuring just a few millimeters each. This improves the contour as well.

Abdominal liposuction needs to be addressed by a few areas so that the vectors intersect and create a smoother result. if you only had a cannula enter at the umbilicus then you would have a greater chance of having linear ridges.

The belly button is an ideal place to hide the scar from liposuction, but this is only one site. Liposuction should be done from several different small puncture sites to provide even contour and achieve the best sculpting. On the abdomen I always use the belly button and then select several other sites in low inconspicuous areas to cover the entire abdomen.

It is based on the angles of the areas being treated. Cross linking the paths of the Smart Lipo fiber can not be done solely through a belly button incision. Thus I ALWAYS use 4 lateral tiny incisions. Over 2500 Smart Lipos done so I feel you should be careful asking only for a belly button incisions.

I am not sure WHY you state that "most doctors do not enter through the belly button". My colleagues and I ALWAYS use a hidden, inside the rim of the belly button incision to perform liposuction of the abdomen. But doing all the liposuction through this opening will result in waviness and an unnatural appearance. For this reason, based on the sculpted look we want to create, we also use several other (2-4) hidden small openings through which we can criss cross the fat removal and yet sculpt the tummy.

Using only one incision for liposuction of the entire abdomen wil result is contour irregularities like raking sand in a Japanese garden. As Dr. Aldea said, we use 2-4 scattered small incisions to "cross-tunnel" the tissue for the best result. Scars aren't the issue in liposuction and you must have a few small ones to get the best result.
