2 years plus after a liposuction necklift, and an infection under my chin in the incision and repair of same, I am suddenly developing these verticle bands that are very visible. What can I do. The surgeon seems reluctant to do anything.
Answer: How do you treat the bands in the middle/front of your neck? Aging neck treatment.. How do you treat bands in the front of a persons neck is a common question that patients ask facial plastic surgeons. The one difficulty in this situation, is the lack of photos. There are many causes of bands in the front of the neck. I'll do my best to highlight the most common causes and some treatment options. 1) Platysmal banding - The platysma muscle is a very thin muscle that lives right under the skin of the neck. It only covers the sides and there is a place in the middle of your neck (that runs vertically from your chin down to your adam's apple) where there is no muscle. So, think of it this way in the middle of your neck the edges of the muscle from each side dont attach and therefore you can sometimes see them. You probably notice this in some people, they have two vertical 'bands' of skin running down their neck. This is the edge of the platysma muscle. To treat this, we typically need to do a surgery to loosen them, stich them or cut the bands. Often, if this is the only procedure required but some people may need a formal 'neck lift.' In people like yourself who already had surgery, we can usually use the same incision. 2) Scar tissue - another possibility is actual scar tissue that formed. If this is the case, there are options including injecting steroids or revision the scar with surgery. The best way to determine this is to see a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon to assess the primary issue. Dr James P. Answer: Vertical bands Thank you for your question. As mentioned previously, these vertical bands running down your neck are likely from the platysmal muscle. This is the normal anatomy of the muscle, but as we age, muscle and skin starts to loosen and that is how these bands become more apparent. Less invasive options for treatment of these bands include Botox injections into the vertical lines or non-invasive skin tightening procedures (i.e. Ultherapy). A more definitive option is a platysmaplasty which is a small surgery that only requires a small incision on the underside of the chin to access the platysmal bands. I hope this helps and best of luck!

Answer: Bands in Neck After Liposuction This may just be a result of aging , which may be showing your platysmal band muscles. These can be treated by botox injections and neck tightening procedures such as thermage or ultherapy, but sometimes platysmal tightening such as neck surgery is needed. I suggest seeking the opinion of an expert. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Neck bands after liposuction The vertical bands that you’re seeing are loose platysma band and skin. They become apparent with aging and liposuction of the neck without a neck lift. What you need is a well-performed face and neck lift by a facial surgeon. This will improve your neck tissue laxity as well as jowls.
