Fungal rash under my breasts & my surgery is in 6 days - will surgeon perform my procedure? (Photo)

Question

I got a fungal rash under both breasts and just got treatment for it today. Will a plastic surgeon still perform surgery? There is no infection. I already paid for the entire surgery I am scared he will cancel it due to the this.

Active inflammation on the skin in or around the surgical area is a good reason to delay surgery. This is especially the case when performing breast surgery that involves incisions in that zone and especially if implants are involved. I recommend that you notify your surgeon sooner than later.

Either way, your surgeon will know about your rash on the day of your surgery by looking at you, so it’s better to just let them know right away.

Hello KchaykunI'm sorry that you developed this issue right before surgery!! Do not be scared if he has to cancel! be happy that the issue presented before surgery, and it can be addressed. Developing this after the surgery could interfere with your healing. I recommend you call your board-certified plastic surgeon and send the photo. If an incision is planned over this area, it may not be the best idea to proceed but it all depends on the surgical plan and your surgeon's opinion. Good luck!

I would send your surgeon your photos and keep them updated on your fungal infection.  The infection has to be gone before surgery will proceed for your safety.  They will ultimately decide on whether to proceed with surgery or not.

Hi kchaykun,
For breast lifts done with a wise (anchor) type incision, the lower incision is made in the breast crease--precisely where your rash is.
I would suggest calling your surgeon ASAP to discuss--it may be best to reschedule, but it's a decision best made between you and your surgeon.

You need to call your surgeon and discuss this with him/her since your surgeon is the one involved. If you were my patient, I would postpone the surgery until you wear cleared to minimize the risk of infection.

Hi and welcome to our forum!From your photos, you appear to have an active fungal infection at the folds below both breasts.A preexisting infection at or near the proposed surgical site (bacterial or fungal) contraindicates surgery as the risk of spreading the infection is increased 7 fold. Contact your surgeon immediately to make him / her aware of the situation as the procedure most likely will be postponed until the infection is controlled.Best wishes...
