Why is my rib cage/stomach area bloated and swollen protruding past my bra band!?

Hi Goldie, Thanks for your question about bloating after your breast augmentation surgery. I completely agree with Dr. Lepore in that you are most likely experiencing post operative constipation (and added gas).  This can frequently happen after surgery due to the pain meds prescribed.  Many patients find relief by decreasing the pain medicines and increasing their intake of liquids and possibly adding laxatives.  Consider an in person exam  with your plastic surgeon as they can best be your guide.  Very best, -Brian S. At just four days post op, you may have a combination of constipation/gas and swelling around the surgical site.  Decreasing the pain meds you are taking, taking a mild laxative, and walking should help.  If the bra band is too tight, ask your surgeon if you could loosen it a little.  With time this problem should subside, but check back with your doctor.  Best wishes, Dr Lepore.
