Laying on my breast implants. Is this a good way to soften them?

Once the implant is in the body- the body begins to react to it by forming internal scar tissue. Any mechanical forces such as massage and/ or laying on the breast in my opinion can help the body keep the pocket open and therefore keep the breasts soft and natural-looking.

Thank you for your question. Yes, I think it can be beneficial to lay on your implants to help stretch the surrounding tissue. I often advise patients to do this after surgery as part of the "Rapid Recovery" technique I use. Some patients find this uncomfortable or are just apprehensive about this. Massage is also a good way to help keep the implants soft, by stretching the capsule ( scar tissue around the implant ) during the early post-operative period. You should discuss your concerns with your surgeon. Good luck.

Personally I recommend that my patients massage their breasts. Your plastic surgeon is probably recommending lying on your breasts to try to keep the pocket expanded. You could ask her if massage would be a reasonable substitute. There may be a reason she doesn't want you to massage.When I discuss massage, I tell my patients to visualize moving the implants around in their pockets to remind the capsules to stay larger than the implants themselves. There are some good how-to videos on YouTube. It is normal to feel the pull of the muscle. Each surgeon has his or her guidelines for postoperative care. Your surgeon seems to be guiding you appropriate. Continue to consult with your surgeon as he or she understands the scope of surgery and the specifics about you.

Laying on your breasts after getting implants is a good way to soften them and is actually better than the limited effects that massage creates. It provides even pressure across the implants for a sustained amount of time.

 You will find that every plastic surgeon has a different “protocol” when it comes to postoperative management. Generally speaking, I advise patients to follow their plastic surgeon's recommendations. However, in my practice, I would be hesitant about asking patients to lie on their breasts early out of surgery. Firstly, I think that this may be uncomfortable for patients and secondly, I would be concerned that the breast implants may shift off to the sides, prior to capsules forming around them. You may wish to review this recommendation with your plastic surgeon again.  The sensation of decreased range of motion with your arm is commonly described;  this typically returns to normal as you become more active… Again, your plastic surgeon will always be your best resource when it comes to more specifics. As others have stated most important thing is that you're implant pocket be stretched and Open.  Breast implant displacement exercises can do this as well as laying on the breast implant.However if your uncomfortable doing this then you should speak with your plastic surgeon and perhaps breast implant displacement exercises will be adequate.Extending your arms to your sides and gradually raising your arms until the back of your hands can touch above your head can often relieves muscle cramping and pain after sub-muscular breast augmentation.
