Can breast implants cause high blood pressure?

Question

I am a very healthy person. I eat healthy and exercise 5 days a week. I have had breast implants for 2.5 years. I never had a problem with high blood pressure before, but a few months after I had my implants put in I had a physical with my primary doctor and had very high blood pressure. Ever since then, I have struggled with having constant high blood pressure. It is about 170/90 every time I check it now. I have gotten so many tests and we can't find the cause for it. Could it be the implants?

Thanks for your question. There is no known association between breast implants and hypertension. I suggest you continue to work with your primary care physician to look for the cause and to appropriately treat your high blood pressure.

No, your implants will not cause high blood pressure, however, your genetics may be involved. Please get your pressure under control. Also, you should try to minimize stress in your life if you can.

The potential for breast implants to have systemic effects has been studied extensively and large scale studies done of prestigious medical universities.  There is no evidence to indicate that silicon breast implants can cause systemic effects such as high blood pressure.  It is important that she seek proper treatment to lower your blood pressure.  Please continue to seeyour primary and asked to have appropriate medications to lower your blood pressure.
