How long is recovery time for thigh liposuction?

A patient can go home on the same day of the procedure. Only very rare cases are made to stay over night at the clinic/hospital. There is mild to moderate pain for first 72 hours and needs to take prescribed medicines. After that there is mild swelling that remains for next 2-3 weeks. Patient is advised to wear pressure garment during first 4-6 weeks to keep the contours as designed during surgery till the final body healing “settles” in. Depending upon area, in most of the cases patient can join back work after 2-3 days if in sitting type of job. Strenuous activities are to be restricted for 3-4 weeks. The timelines however differ on individual basis.

First couple of weeks after the surgery you can back to work and couple of weeks later your permanent recovery will start. It’s possible to see some major changes in Liposuction results till the end of 12 months recovery. I wish you all the best.

Hi, thanks for your question. I generally tell my patients that if they have liposuction on a Friday, they can plan to be back at work on Monday and back to the gym on Wednesday. Bruising is mostly gone in 10 days and almost always completely gone in 14 days. While a real change is visible after about two weeks, 3-6 months should be allowed for all swelling to resolve and for the final results to become apparent.  

Recovery time will vary from patient to patient. It is imperative to follow closely your surgeon’s orders, so that you heal in a timely manner. For about two weeks following your operation, you will be advised to avoid partaking in activities and work. A full recovery can take anywhere from six to eight weeks, with swelling diminishing in your third month. Always keep your surgeon informed of new developments you encounter in your healing process. It is generally recommended to take between 3-7 days off after the surgery, depending on how many areas were worked on, and your pain tolerance. You will need to wear a compression garment for about 6-8 weeks to help reduce the amount of swelling and it can take about 6 months for all of the swelling to resolve before you see your final cosmetic result.

Recovery times following liposuction vary and depends on factors such as the amount of fat removed, and the overall length of the procedure. Pain, swelling, and bruising are expected after surgery. Patients are encouraged to walk immediately following surgery and most are capable of returning to work in 2-3 days; however, this will ultimately depend on the extent of liposuction that was performed. In cases where more extensive liposuction is performed, we would generally recommend for you to take at least a week off work. Swelling should start decreasing approximately 7-10 days after surgery; residual swelling can persist up to 6 months. Light exercises are permitted at 2 weeks, and full exercise and activities can be resumed after 4-6 weeks. Hello, Thank you for your question. Everyone has a different pain tolerance on average most of our patients are usually back to work in 1 week after Liposuction. The first 3 days are always the hardest since your body is extremely sore and swollen. It can also depend on the areas you had done, and the type of job you have. Some of our patients that have an office job and had their core done sometimes go back to work in 4-7 days. Keep in mind you will still be sore, as long as your job is not too physical a week should be a good time frame. Ultimately its all based on how your body recovers, if you know you don't have a high pain tolerance you might consider taking more time off. Best of luck!

most thigh liposuction patients will need 1-2 weeks to recover in my experience.  Be sure to discuss your goals and concerns with your board certified plastic surgeon and consider the pros and the cons. Most of my patients can go back to desk work within a couple of days.  You will stay swollen for several months.
