I recently received breast augmentation in another country just 3 weeks ago. I noticed that my wounds are open on the edges, and wanted to know if they will need to be restitched. There are also white strings coming out of my wounds, along with some stitches remaining I believe. Will I need to go to a surgeon locally to have them removed? It is difficult to contact my surgeon. These photos are both of my breasts, I did just clean them with peroxide. There is no liquids coming out.
Answer: Breast augmentation candidate. Some advices: Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. In my practice, after performing a breast augmentation I recommend to my patients to limit the movement of the arms for two weeks. After that, you can move your arms taking care and always with common sense. In this regard, it's not advisable to carry heavy weights to prevent the implant out of position, and allow the formation of the physiological capsule around the implant, also to avoid pain and breast swelling.Respectfully, Dr. Emmanuel Mallol Cotes.-

Answer: Obviously, this highlights the importance of local surgeon Sorry you are having difficulties, I really am. You are now in the position of having to find a doc who's willing to see you and who won't likely have access to your operative report to see what was done, how your wound was closed, implant size, etc...You may have some of this information and I hope you do. Patients often talk about the cost savings of going abroad for their surgery but, your case (and a dozen more like you that have come to my office or the local ER) point out the fact that sometimes saving money on the surgical fees, costs more in the long run. Good luck.

Answer: I had breast augmentation in another country and am worried that my wound is opening! Hello lunaaa123,Thanks for your question.First, stop using peroxide. Just clean your incisions with soap and water. Peroxide can dissolve suture material and kill healthy tissue cells trying to close your wound. Increase the protein and vitamin C in your diet to improve your wound healing.Avoid wearing any underwire bras, because the wires can cut into this areas forcing them open.I do recommend you see a surgeon locally to make sure that the implants are not getting exposed. It is likely that you have just minor wound issues, but it pays to be sure.Good luck,Dr. Shah

Answer: Three weeks post-op and I see white strings hanging from my stitches and one wound seems open on the edge? Thank you for your question and photos. No online reviewer can diagnose a condition based solely on the information provided. However, it does not look infected as there is minimal redness. I would recommend you see a plastic surgeon to ensure this does not deteriorate. You are correct to question the appearance of your wounds.

Answer: Wound healing The answer to your question depends partly upon how your surgeon closed the wounds. Most plastic surgeons close submuscular breast augmentation incisions in three layers. If that is the case here and you do not have an infection you will most likely heal without further intervention as long as you keep this clean. If the implant becomes exposed, however, it will almost certainly have to be removed. As you probably realize now, destination plastic surgery is a risky proposition. Not being able to see your plastic surgeon is a problem. Not being able to contact your surgeon is even worse. I would strongly advise you to seek help from a board certified plastic surgeon in your area. You will almost certainly have other questions moving forward.
