I lost 120lbs via diet and exercise and am at the weight I would like to be (my BMI is 29). ALL of my bloodwork is normal (including liver function tests, liver enzymes, thromboplastin time, etc). Normal EKG, normal BP, no diabetes or pre-diabetes. However, my liver is still fatty (although vastly improved) and I still have some liver fibrosis (due to the fatty liver). My liver specialist said that I might be a candidate for elective surgery, but that it would be the surgeon's decision.
Answer: Can I have a tummy tuck if I have a fatty liver (with some liver fibrosis)? If you care cleared by your liver specialist for surgery, then I see no reason you can't have the surgery. Congratulations on your weight loss. That's quite an accomplishment. Fortunately liver cells do regenerate with a nutritious diet.I highly recommend the no-drain tummy tuck for a shorter recovery time, less pain, lower incidence of complications, and you will not be encumbered with drains for 5-10 days. I've used the technique now for over 7 years without a single seroma (accumulation of fluid) in about 350 tummy tucks. Patients love it because of the fast recovery time and diminished discomfort.Check with your plastic surgeon and get a letter of clearance from your liver specialist, and go for it. You have earned it.Thank you for your interesting question, and good luck.

Answer: Can I have a tummy tuck if I have a fatty liver (with some liver fibrosis)? Thank you for the question. Tummy tuck procedures can be done safely for patients with a variety of different “medical conditions”. Careful evaluation and treatment of the medical condition is necessary prior to determining the appropriate candidates for the tummy tuck procedure. In your case this would be best done by your gastroenterologist or liver specialist. The physicians who know your situation best would be best suited to discuss your suitability for the procedure and the potentially increased risks/ complications that you should consider. Also, please make sure you are seeking consultation with well experienced board-certified plastic surgeons who preferably work with board-certified anesthesiologists. I hope this helps. Best wishes.

Answer: Can I have a tummy tuck if I have a fatty liver (with some liver fibrosis)? The health of your liver will need to be assessed before surgery is considered. Your hepatologist or internal medicine specialist who is overseeing the treatment of your liver fibrosis would need to provide your medical records to a board certified PS for him/her to determine if a TT would be safe for you to undergo. Because your liver specialist has reservations about your candidacy for elective surgery, you might want to wait until you have clearance from your liver specialist as he/she is most familiar with your health history.
