She prescribed Derma Smoothe FS for the scalp.

Question

I went to my dermatologist which she took a scalp biopsy.I returned 7 days later post op the Dr. advished that my hair loss and thinning was traction alopecia. She prescribed Derma Smoothe FS for the scalp. My insurance did not approve this medication it has not appoved ny FDA. And its very expensive 180.00 -399.00 Another medication was prescribed hydrocortosone cream 2.5% as an alternative. Will this help re grow my hair what are my other options do I have.

You need a diagnosis and understand what condition you have.  If insurance does not cover the medication then ask your doctor other treatment options.   Follow up with your doctor.  That is the best thing you can do.

I would be interested in taking a look at the scalp under magnification.We have had great results at bringing hair out of shock with Capillus 272.If we were not able to bring the hair back non surgically, hair transplants could potentially be performed.

Traction alopecia is a form of hair loss from pulling forces on hair. There is no FDA approved treatment for traction alopecia. Period.In fact, there is no FDA approved treatment for the vast majority of hair loss conditions in women - except genetic hair loss for which minoxidil is approved.But just because there are no FDA approved treatmenta doesn't mean there are not treatments. Steroid injections and minoxidil can help some people if the traction alopecia is early stage. If traction alopecia has been present a while, the only treatment is hair transplant surgery.

This condition can be treated very effectively with hair transplants. This will cost more money then the medications which were prescribed and insurance does not cover it.
