Could my implant have been damaged after my dog stepped on it?

My dog just stepped on my boob while i was laying down. He is 50 pounds. Could this do any damage to my saline implant? I had surgery 05/2017. It hurts a lot with a shooting pain down my arm. I’m paranoid this could turn into something serious. Thank you in advance!

Thank you for your questions. All implants pass rigorous testing and it is very unlikely that a small event such as that would have any impact or cause any damage to your implant. Some pain is normal and I would encourage you to wait, use ice and some NSAID medications to calm inflammation. If the pain is still present in a few days, or if you are still concerned, then go see your plastic surgeon for an evaluation.Hope this helps!Dallas R. Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry to hear of your accidental trauma.  Fortunately after so many months your breasts have fully healed and it is unlikely that any damage took place.  If you see any changes to your breast appearance then see your surgeon for a consultation otherwise treat the pain with some anti-inflammatory medication and monitor it over a few days.  Hope this helps.

Thank you for your question.  It is very unlikely that the implant is damaged.  It is more likely the discomfort you are having is from trauma to the breast tissue or muscle.  With a little time this should improve.  If the saline implant has been ruptured it will be easy to tell as the implant will go flat.

IT is highly unlikely that a dog hitting the implant caused a leak/rupture.  With a saline implant though you should notice within a few days if it is getting smaller than the other breast - which would be a sign of a leak. Much more common is a bruise to the breast itself, or underlying muscle. This can be treated with NSAID's and OTC meds. If concern still remains contact your plastic surgeon.

Breast implants are very resistant to damage but there are cases where patients have ruptured their implants by falling or by getting hit.  A plastic surgeon can perform a physical exam and determine if the implant is ruptured. A ruptured saline implant will deflate and the saline will be absorbed by the body.  Even if there is no damage to the implant it is good to discuss this with the plastic surgeon or primary care to determine there are no other injuries present.

Breast implants are quite resistant to rupture from compression. However, it is impossible to assess your situation without examination. If this occurred within the past 24 hours, you may wish to wait a day or two to determine if the discomfort abates, unless you note a change in breast size, increasing pain, swelling, or bruising, which would require emergent evaluation by your plastic surgeon.

Sorry to hear about your dog stepping on your implant.  If your breast starts to change in size (either gets suddenly larger or smaller) then there may be some damage.  It is best to get checked out by your PS just to be sure.  Best of luck!

That is one nice thing about saline implants is that when they  leak/fail you will see a decrease in your breast size.So if not they are fine.
