My 14 yr old son got elbowed in the nose playing basketball. It bled and got swollen right away, but he was not in much pain after. I took him for xrays but the doc said it was not broken, and the bump may just be a "knot" on the right side of his nose that will go away. Is that accurate? It's been a little over a week and it still has not gone down. I don't want this to be permanent. Please help.

This is a well-known syndrome where the septum applies pressure to the lateral walls of the nose causing headaches. It is very treatable by surgery. You can test for it by injecting anesthetic into the area of contact and seeing if the headache spontaneously resolves. When this is the cause for...
Only with an examination can you know if they are broken. It is noraml for there to be sensitivity as the nose is a sensitive structure. I believe the less fuss made about the incision by the patient, the better. Too much irritation by all the attention.
