Can I do a hair transplant with my own hair to change texture?

I have about 4 different hair textures on my head. Is it possible to transplant one section to another in order to change the recipient site texture? i.e. the back of my head has a loose curl texture while to top has a wiry, kinky texture. Could I transplant hair from the back to change the texture at the top?

Hello madamep85, It is possible to do what you are asking if you have hair loss. A hair transplant surgeon will need to have enough space between the follicles to safely implant a hair. If placed too close to an existing follicle it can damage the surrounding area.. Best option will be to see a physician who specializes in hair to determine if this can be safely done for you.

This is answered by the concept of "donor dominance" in hair transplant.  The transplanted hair will keep the same characteristic from where you took it from.  If the hair is curly, it will stay curly.  If the hair is fine, it will stay fine.  If the hair is white, it will stay white.  Etc.

Actually  it is not possible to transplant hair from your back to change the texture at the top.  Because we have to  keep  same density  in both area top and nape scalp ,  harvest and transplant  same number of grafts to  exactly  same areas of donor and recipient sites  which is technically  impossible.

Hair can only be taken from the permanent donor zone and whatever the texture of hair at that zone will be transplanted into the recipient area and that is the texture to you will have.

Most of the hair transplanted hair carries the character from its source which is the back and side of the head, so you can do what you are asking.  Hair that is falling out and/or miniaturizing often have changes in their character as the hair shafts often reduce their thickness.
