I am 1 week post op of primary breast aug. 345cc/365cc high cohesive gel moderate profile L/R. Was in a lot of discomfort post op, a lot of swelling to sternum. Next day, was told I am very tight, first I’d heard that from surgeon. I specified that 350cc was too big when I tried sizers at preop. Insignificant comfort change since day 1 or 2 post op and a lot of tenderness to touch throughout ribs and sternum. Could implants that are too big be reason for continued discomfort at 1wk post.

Answer: When sizing, what sizer did you like? Not liking a 350 cc sizer translates to not wanting a 390+ implant. You are smaller than that and from your photos, there is nothing alarming on how you look. The implants definitely are not 'too big' for your frame and as they soften and settle, I think you should have a great outcome. Patient discomfort is very unique to every person and never the same so you cannot compare your recovery to that of someone else. Plus, technique used at surgery also makes a big difference in how much discomfort you will have so every recovery is a unique one too. Let your surgeon know of your concerns and let your surgeon do any worrying if you do have concerns about how you are healing... after all, your surgeon should want the best outcome for you since you are a direct reflection of what kind of work he/she does.

Answer: One week post-op I would not be too concerned at one week if you feel your implants are too big. All implants will look overly large during the first few weeks of surgery while you are the most swollen. Even with small implants being placed, your body will tend to react by swelling the breasts as much as possible. This is why a bra or wrap is usually recommended to help reduce the swelling. Your tenderness should improve as the skin tension relaxes as you heal. You will look and feel better week by week and it is something you should look forward to. Hope this helps!Johnson C.
