I am scheduled for eyelid surgery in Ottawa on Feb. 20th, 2018 but have not met my doctor, is this wise?

There are many causes of tearing.  What surgery is being purposed?  I know it is hard to get good medical care in Canada but this is crazy. (Apologies to Canadian colleagues!)  You need to have the basis for the tearing diagnosed. Do you need a dacrocystorhinostomy or something else?  As a surgeon who does surgery for tearing, I commonly find that the diagnosis of the referring ophthalmologist or optometrist is in correct.  I recommend finding a different surgeon who actually sees their patients before surgery. Don't accept bad medical care.

You should be seen by your surgeon prior to surgery for evaluation !!  Many times the optometrist recommendation is not the proper approach to correct surgically !!  I suggest to see an Oculoplastic surgeon and get a proper evaluation of your dry eye syndrome and if needed, the proper surgery would be discussed.  Eyelid surgery in Dry eye syndrome need proper and thorough evaluation !!

You Must see your Dr. before surgery.  At least for one consultation for diagnosis prior to surgery.  It is not wise to have surgery without an evaluation by the performing Dr.  Best of luck.
