Hello- I had a tummy tuck and Augs done last March. I'm about 90% satisfied, but I have a buldge above my incision that hasn't gone away. I still have days I swell and it buldges more, but overall it's still not flat. Actually, my measurements below my waist are larger than prior to my surgery. Please help or recommendations? Also, one side bulges out more and my surgeon did a 'w' incision and I hadn't seen anyone else with an incision like mine. Help!
Answer: Remaining Bulge After Tummy Tuck Thanks so much for sharing your concerns. It would appear that there is an imbalance between the thickness of the upper and lower skin flaps from the tummy tuck with some excess skin. When I perform abdominoplasty surgery I like to set the scar low as a straight bikini line incision so that it is well hidden in underwear and clothing. It would appear that there is still some more skin that could be excised to help lower the scar and remove the hanging tissue. I would suggest consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon for an opinion on what can be done to help address your concerns

Answer: Tummy Tuck You would need to revise the lower scar by excision the excess tissue that is bulging. If you don't want another incision you can liposuctio the area. You will have to understand that you will still have remaining skin even if it is less bulky after the liposuction.

Answer: Tummy tuck post op bulge It appears to me to be some excess fat above the tummy tuck scar. This could likely be treated with liposuction under local anesthesia with minimal down time. There may be some excess skin which could also be treated with local anesthesia and minimal down time. Discuss your options with your surgeon it does not appear to me to need a major revision. The scar position is good the shape is a little unusual but may have been necessary or just a variation of technique. Good luck.

Answer: Bulge After Tummy Tuck First, I'm not sure if he deliberately made a W incision or if the center of the scar is raised due to tension. A slight amount of skin excess above the incision can happen depending on the amount of skin removed, tension on the incision and skin quality. However, in your case I'm seeing fat and not excess skin. The skin thickness above the incision is always much greater than below on in the mons pubis. This is unless liposuction of the abdomen was performed. This difference in thickness can result in a difference in height at the line of closure. I think you're going to need something to address the fat.

Answer: Bulge after tummy tuck You are almost one year following your tummy tuck so swelling should no longer be an issue. Bulging in the lower abdomen after a tummy tuck can be due to some residual fat in the area or it can also be from a fluid collection under the skin that has persisted. You should revisit your plastic surgeon, if there is fluid under the skin it can be drained. If there is some residual fat then touch up liposuction may help. You may also be helped by doing a revision of the tummy tuck with tightening of the skin in the lower abdomen and revision of your scar Wishing you all the best Alain Polynice, MD, FACS New York Board Certified Plastic Surgeon
